La Cuisine!

So it’s settled! We are going to London on the third (with a tour) so expect photos of the WORLD’S LARGEST DIAMOND MOO HA HA!!! That’s what it said on the travel brochure.. should be interesting. Oscar’s cousin from Australia is here, and they brought sheepskin (with the fur) as souvenirs for Oscar and his brother… Pretty awesome gift *pats furry stuff* Am excited about going to London with them! =D

Meanwhile, here are some photos from the last few days… of FOOD. Yumyum. Too bad we didn’t have moules (muscles) yet… been craving it for a few days x)

chicken thigh

We had lunch at a cafe by Republique, I bought so many clothes there… All really cheap clothes and shoes that would cost about twice as much in Vancouver n_n Anyway the plate I ordered was something like cuisse de poulet grandmere with something potatoes.. Felt a little sad I couldn’t finish all of it :(

outdoor

I am eating outdoors. So adventurous of me ._.

oscars plate

Oscar’s plate. Something on skewers. He didn’t even know what kind of meat it was going to be until it came :P The total came to be 27 euro, which is not bad considering that the plates for lunch + water + coke were massive. and delicious. and ohSoScrumptious. The only bad part was sitting downwind of the french lady who decided to smoke next to us :E

at Melinda

Today we went to this place near the travel agency to eat Vietnamese food… The rolls were filled with pork skin, lettuce, mint and the sauce was kind of vinegar-y. Yumyum.

pork steak

And for the main course we had pork steak on rice… Pretty good, but again I was sad because I couldn’t finish :E

ice cream

After booking our tour we went to chatelet and it was suuuuper hot outside… so we got a giant ice cream :P My face is grossness. I blame the dirty air in Paris… It’s so nasty wiping your face after a day of travelling in the city and the metro D:

mold

and here is a picture from the cheese aisle in carrefour… SCARY MOLDY CHEESE. When I first saw it I thought it went bad, but it has holes and Oscar said you just eat it like that… D: I think this is one of the types of cheese I would be hesitant to try. BLEH!

annnnd I’ll finish with a video of us walking by the lake and the metro station by Oscar’s house :) not very exciting but it’s more pleasant than the moldy cheese.

Some Videos

here is a video of Oscar looking slightly embarrassed (but mostly happy) because I am filming the random accordion guy on the train… I love these guys! they totally set the mood for when you’re riding on the metro <3

and then here is us looking for mconalds =D kevin said “down the street and take a left” and.. um.. yeah.

and some more music! enjoy~

Paris, Mon Amour pt. 1

This is going to be a really random post because I have about 3-4 days worth of pics to show… I picked some random ones because I don’t have time to upload everything :P

milk

the milk here comes in a box like this, or in weird little cylinder bottles much like laundry detergent or something… but it actually tastes like milk! unlike the shizz in north america, which tastes like watered down… white water.

cheese

I always love the little grocery stores, they always have a good section of fromage <3 the cheese aisle is full of wonderful stuff, goat cheese, cream cheese, cheese with bits of blue and green and anything you can think of *rolls over and drools*

wine
and they also have wine at the grocery stores… for super cheap! 3 euro is like… 5 dollars canadian? can’t find wine like that anywhere else :P

les artists

The second night we had a nice dinner at a restaurant called les artistes, it’s named that because they have a selection of salads named after famous artists. I didn’t order any but they had some named after Van Gogh, Matisse, Renoir, etc.

This was just a random vending machine in the metro… it has got to be the most disturbing ad i’ve ever seen in my life hahah… you can’t really tell from the picture but the giraffe has nipples =_= I asked oscar why it’s a giraffe and he said it’s probably because the particular bottle has a long neck… >_> and y’know, the phrase “naturally pulpy” on the bottom doesn’t really make it any more comforting… … … ^_^;;;

we were walking around chatelet and saw this weird shop of taxidermy animals >_< i think they sell things to get rid of pests but they also do taxidermy D:

of course we had to visit mcdonalds! have to visit mcdonalds in every country haha.. it’s like novelty food when you go to another country to pick something new from their menu. I ordered the royal filet because we don’t have that in canada :P

i also ordered the wedge potatoes along with my meal, but it turned out to be really salty :(

the next day we planned to visit le jardin des plantes, but it turned out to be a really sad garden that was almost completely dried up… there were some really nice, big, shady trees but we found the museum of natural history more interesting. we only visited the paleontology building and it was free! yayy~

i always though paleontology was kind of lame, but bones are actually kind of cool… we still have a famous cemetary (forgot which one) and the catacombs to visit… this trip has turned kind of morbid with all these boney visits haha

anyway that’s it for now… will update videos maybe later tonight or tomorrow =D also maybe going on a weeklong trip to milan/venice or taking the eurostar to london. tres excited! hahaha

First Conscious Day in France

I think the correct expression here is: ohhh baabbbyyyyy!

swag from the boulanger

baguette, croissants and pain au chocolat *drool*

The flight was shit, I had the middle seat, note to self: always buy aisle seat so I won’t feel bad about telling the aisle person to move so I can pee. I slept maybe 2 hours total of the 9 hours, then slept some more on the car ride back to Oscar’s house. He lives in this place called Lognes, which is in the suburbs of Paris. Today we are going shopping because I was stupid enough to bring 5 pairs of shorts and 1 pair of pants, when the weather here is still too chilly to be wearing short shorts… I’m an idiot.

Hope everyone is well! I will have more pictures when I figure out where the stupid iPhoto program puts all the imported images. RAWR.

Packing

June 19, 2009 • Filed Under social & travels

I haven’t been up to much this past week, mostly just watching a lot of TV and sleeping in :T I bought a volleyball, and started rallying with Oscar because the weather is so nice outside… Now my fingers hurt because I haven’t played in… 7 years :P

Am invited to a wedding when I get back from my trip, super excited because wedding food is always yummy xD

Argggh have to pack… Not sure if I packed enough, but I’m sure I’m forgetting something…

Told Oscar to download a bunch of movies so I can watch on the plane instead of picturing images from the Air France wreckage… We’re taking the exact same kind of airbus (although we didn’t have any troubles last time…) but the thought of being in a semi-flimsy plane kind of gets to me … >_<
