You’re doing it wrong

n1h1 fluReally, it’s like something out of Simcity or the Sims… Reading the paper now is a lot like those news things that pop up every now and then in the game, because sometimes the titles make me chuckle. “Canada’s chief public health officer, says the virus will no longer be referred to as swine flu, but instead will be called the H1N1 flu virus” not like changing the name really helps much.

I just wish people would wash their hands more often. Or at least properly. I was in the public washroom in pacific centre yesterday and one girl basically stuck her fingers under the faucet for about half of a second then continued to get paper towels to wipe. She didn’t even look like she was in a hurry or anything, and I’m pretty sure she used the toilet because I saw her walk out next to the stall I was using… You’re supposed to wash your hands under luke warm water WITH SOAP for at least 20 – 30 seconds. If you can’t time yourself, sing the happy birthday song in your head for the duration of the hand-washing, it’s not that hard.

To be honest she probably contracted more bacteria from touching the faucet and the paper towel dispenser than from that little dabbing water action she thought was washing her hands.

Bah, nudists.

I was browsing ICHC and saw this… and it was funny for a few seconds until I had the memory of visiting UBC’s own Wreck Beach, common hang out for nudists in the greater Vancouver area. Oscar and I thought it would be fun to visit a couple of years ago, but I think we were mostly awkward, down at that beach. The day we visited, we saw mostly older men tanning or thirty-something guys on their boogie boards. Then there were the odd nude families here and there. It was strange, to see an entire family, nude, playing on the beach.

Personally I would be uncomfortable being nude on a beach for a practical reason, the fact that sand and stuff gets into … cracks and … body parts just bugs the hell out of me. I can barely stand little grains of sand in my bag after a day at the beach let alone some in my… underparts!

Overall it was an interesting experience, but I always shudder when I think about the other time I had to go down there… I had a geography lab there on a really, very cold day. It wasn’t raining but there was a light sprinkle just starting. The TA was talking about different kinds of rocks in the stratas when suddenly a naked old man jogs by, things bouncing and everything… Then the class moved further down to look at some other rocks, and there was the old guy sitting, with his shirt to cushion his rear from the grains of the rock. He had every right to be naked and jogging but really, it was so cold and of all the parts of the beach (it’s quite a long beach) he just HAPPENS to stop there and observe while we were trying really hard to just study rocks >_< It was really creepy and most people tried not to stare...

Maybe I’m just jealous. I don’t think I will ever be brave enough to go to the beach in my birthday suit :P

Wife

I was going through facebook and I get invited by one of my high school classmates to join her group for ITM modelling… They are doing votes via text messaging nowadays, apparently. It got me to thinking about stereotypical wives for some reason… It seemed like she was doing all these things in life that was so typical of one of those trophy wives I read about in books. The nondescript university or college degree, the winner of a small collection of beauty pageants, philanthropy and charity luncheon type things. It’s one of those things I can’t quite put a finger on because at the same time it seems like a wonderful achievement yet really quite useless.

I can just imagine her husband, years from now, at some sort of business function or a country golf club chuckling with one of his buddies about how his wife was the leader of the golf club in her high school. and won ms chinese vancouver. and then continued to take over the world, one pageant at a time with her pearly white teeth and wind blowing in her hair.

The more I think about it, the weirder it gets. Why do we have these kinds of competitions for women and not for men? Why are the “qualifications” of these pageants based on outward appearance and how does it become some sort of accomplishment if you win? There really isn’t a conclusion to this train of thought… so nevermind the babbling :P

Curious Advertisements

I signed up for Google Adsense… and the first ads I got were: Microfinance, and Solar Energy Charity… because my blog totally screams microfinance, isn’t that right? the only time I encounter finance is probably when I read the shopaholic series and she PRETENDS she knows finance ahahaha so sad.

SOLAR ENERGY, on the other hand, I totally support! My brother’s girlfriend’s parents are really into the organic stuff and that bohemian kind of living, and are totally into solar panels. My brother even joked that when he gets a house he’s installing his own solar panels >_>

everything is going “green” nowadays it’s a bit annoying. It’s good for the Earth I suppose. I’m a bit of a cynic and say it’s too little too late anyway, but it’s kind of fun, the eco-bags. Soon I won’t have to give out plastic bags to snooty customers at work anymore! I can just be snooty back, saying we are an environmentally friendly company and they can bring their own goddamn bags or suck it. HA!

Edit I just saw an ad for crispy fried chicken on my sidebar. I can now die happily, knowing that my readers will probably share my love for crispy fried chicken.
