Almost 36 months!

thirty six months doesn’t seem like that long now that I’m looking at the number on my screen. It’s almost been three years since Oscar asked me out, and I am a bit stuck, wondering what to get him. I mean, three years is a significant amount of time to spend with someone, especially if you call them every single night. Even though I am sure he is out of his pokemon card collecting phase (hahah I just had to mention that… We spent the whole afternoon cleaning out parts of his room and there was a shocking amount [BOXES and BINDERS, FULL] of pokemon/other random cards [from his elementary school years, of course]) I am still not sure what I should get him. In the end we got out 4 or 5 bags full of recyclable things and garbage and cleaned only parts of him and his brother’s desk. we were looking for Kevin’s go cards from school (Ahouat we found the cards! you looked so dorky in your yearbook pictures! we’ll scan and email them to you soon. no luck with Beslie’s, maybe she took them with her??)

Sorry this is getting off topic… Any gift ideas for a guy? He likes clothing (H&M? the ones in paris, not the ones here… the ones here are so CRAPPY compared to europe) and he also likes watches (he’s already got one from his dad though… really fancy but he never uses it to check time. It’s the most adorable thing because even if the watch is really close to his face or in his frame of vision he will stick his hands in his pocket to check the digital time on his iphone…) and he likes to eat and the usual guy things I guess :/

Maybe I will cook! :0 blar.

Pretentious People

hipsterGirlOne thing I absolutely abhor is people who are really pretentious. And people who never shut up. I had to deal with someone who encompass both these traits. My friend Lok and I call her 80s girl. She is one of those token hipster girls in your typical art school scenario. Her entire wardrobe is 30 years behind and seems to always be missing a piece of her “ensemble” (ex. doesn’t wear a bra, or wears really flimsy shorts that make her look like she’s wearing no pants, or wearing a really weird sleeveless shirt that looks way too loose.[the outfits were cool on the first day and began looking disturbing as there were instances of nipples running amok]) Not only is her wardrobe out of date, she was attacking my photo because I used photoshop for my print… I saw her prints and they were done in 35mm film, which is perfectly fine, if not better, but there’s no reason to say one is better than the other just because she obviously doesn’t know how to use technology. The prof didn’t mind at all that I used Photoshop and encouraged us to learn how to use new technology and so on…

I’m just pretty pissed at how she went on and on about what she didn’t like about EVERYONE’s pieces, and what she would do better if it were her project. I had one of those in my drawing class last term too. It’s one thing to give constructive criticism, another to feed your own ego just because you like hearing the sound of your own voice.

Maybe next class I should bring a picket sign that says STFU and raise it when she starts babbling.

Meet Bunn-Barbie

For sculpture we are supposed to make an “homage” sculpture to a piece to any artist that we like… I picked a piece called “Fruit of Thy Loins” by Mike Kelley, done in 1990. I can’t find any other picture aside from the one in my textbook, so here is a picture of another piece he did called Frankenstein:

kelley - frankenstein

In his stuffed toy pieces they talk about the abject and childhood, and I really like that stuff so I thought I would do something similar.

I don’t have a title yet. I’m pretty pleased with the result.
Honestly I just like it because it’s pink and furry.

OMGZBBQ so awesome!
